Chicken Soup and the Stages of Change!

Image

Had the grooviest Spanish Phase II group where members used flavors of food to describe the Stages of Change!!!

Pre-contemplation was sour – like lime and perhaps even bile as they recalled the Knarliest of hangover were not enough to help them see that their drinking had become a problem!  Stomachs churned as we all reflected our worst of hangovers!

Then came along contemplation where slowly cooking carrots neutralized then replaced the bile for more healthy substantial and tasty bites.

Followed by preparation that was represented by all of the condiments – like fresh ground pepper, sea salt and cilantro to add the flavored POW necessary to tip the balance in the favor of action!

Action – The letting go and allowing the delicious soup to slowly cook – everything coming together – support groups and the slow decrease of post acute withdrawal symptoms allowing the journey to create a solid foundation where unsteadiness used to live.

Maintenance – represented by the patience of time to allow the soup to simmer to a tasty mouthwatering experience!  One day at a time!  Continue to attend support groups, support one another in treatment groups and spend time with families/get to know ourselves .

And finally Recovery where you allow this delicious and nutritious comforting food experience to bring forth the healthy life you have always wished for and follow it with a delicious dessert.   Dessert for one individual represented the healing taking place in his home where broken promises used to live but are now being replaced with loving trust!

I am so honored to witness individual lives changing before my eyes!!!
