Goal of Training
The goal of this training is to provide an overview of the post-deployment factors that combat veterans may face including substance abuse and PTSD. Participants will learn about the unique stressors that combat veterans face including traumatic stressors, physical injuries, readjustment issues, and involvement in the conflicted justice/criminal justice system. This training will provide an overview of the most effective integrated treatment for PTSD and substance abuse and will discuss how dual diagnosis treatment can help veterans with co-morbid PTSD and substance abuse who are involved in the justice/criminal justice system move from risk to resilience in regard to their recovery. In addition to learning about dual diagnosis treatment and options for justice/criminal justice, participants will also learn about how to prevent compassion fatigue and burnout, which are common among providers who serve this population.

Behavioral Objectives
By the end of the workshop participants will be able to:
•Identify the prevalence of PTSD, Substance Abuse, among combat veterans.
•Gain an understanding of the problems that returning war service members face and how those problems are increasingly leading many service members to end up in a conflicted justice/criminal system.
•An understanding of integrated treatment options for PTSD and Substance abuse.
•Understand the differences between secondary trauma, compassion fatigue and burnout and will learn at least three strategies to address each of these issues.
