Is my cup half empty or is it half full?
At age 53 fortunately, I tend to lean toward the latter! Without sounding too morbid as I see that I have fewer years ahead of me than behind me I choose to want to cherish every moment. As Don, the nurse I grew to love at Southwest Washington Medical Center would say “Any day I wake up and I am not six feet under is going to be a good day!” I get it Don! And Dr. Nylander who said “Don’t do that” as I was counting down the days to Friday. He then added a beautiful reminder that every day should be more and more precious! Thank you Dr. Nylander!
This Valentine’s Day is a perfect example…holidays and I are not the best of friends…and I see now that one of my tendencies is to view holidays as my cup half empty. I miss my Shallane and her boys, Valin and Xanthin, who are in Texas. I feel guilty for not spending enough time with my kids Darleen and Sherry and my Grandkids Hayden and LeiLani who are here. Instead I attend community events, substance and mental health trainings and time with my honey.
I am a Certified Calling In “The One” Transformative Life Coach and humbly admit at times I view my relationship as my cup half empty! This especially happens during that difficult cycle…argh – Ladies and Gentleman, I know you know what I am talking about!!! Very few escape the wrath!!! While I strive to be an A and sometimes I am lucky to deliver a C- during my monthly monster time! So if you have seen me at my worst – please, please forgive me!!!
This share is about saying thank you to my wonderful partner who completely blew me away with such a memorable weekend. I never mentioned the word Valentine’s Day yet it was the most wonderful Valentine’s Day ever!!! It began with a delicious spread of my favorite Dim Sum food in his van at the Planet Fitness parking lot during my 30 minute lunch! Then we tried to go see 50 Shades of Grey – his idea – however it was sold out at our favorite place Cinetopia! But that didn’t stop him he took me out to a nice Prime Restaurant in Downtown Portland where we enjoyed bacon wrapped salmon and tiramisu as we listened to live jazz music.
The following day I took myself to the gym to get my own work out because I am learning to be true to myself – working out I have found helps me to reach my goal to show up as an A. I start off with the Total Body Enhancement then do the 30 Minute Workout and finish off in the Hydro massage bed and chair!
So I return back to meet up with my honey and he insists we go to the water but we both realize the Eastern Winds make it too uncomfortably cold to enjoy. Plan B (my honey again) is going out to my favorite restaurant Ocean City on 82nd in Portland. The place is packed but we patiently wait for More Dim Sum!!! He brings up wanting to take My Sherry and her honey Hameed! We share stories of our college days as we enjoy every tasty morsel. We go for a drive in his van and finish off the night with watching The Interview…which he commented was high school humor however on more than one occasion he giggled like a high schooler!!!
What I have found is being true to ourselves helps us to show up as our best selves. We benefit plus everyone we come into contact benefits with us!
So please join me on this beautiful adventure of My Grace Filled Life after Addiction.
